POCKET PC LIFE SITE OF THE MONTH
Zippy's Pocket PC software list
By Steve Niles

You've just bought or upgraded to the Pocket PC, and you're now scouring the Internet for great applications to use. You find some developers who suck you in with the assurance that their software fully supports the Pocket PC. You download it eagerly, only to discover, to your great disappointment, that it doesn't work because what you've really got is Palm-sized PC software with misleading representation. You're not alone.

What you need is a Web site with a list of 100% grade A certified Pocket PC compatible software. Well, that's just what August's Pocket PC Life Site of the Month claims to provide. It's called Zippy's All of the Pocket PC's Software List, and you can find it at http://www.ziplink.net/~zippy/pocketpc/software.shtml.

To get on this exclusive list, software must meet three basic criteria. It has to have been developed for or upgraded to the Pocket PC interface, it must support all current processor platforms for Pocket PC, and it has to be available somewhere on the Internet.

Now, I can't personally verify that everything on Zippy's list meets all the criteria, nor can I say for certain this is a completely comprehensive list--new stuff is coming out all the time--but it certainly looks like a good start. There's a wealth of resources on the Internet, but more often than not, the information you want is spread out all over the place. Thanks to Zippy's efforts, finding applications for your Pocket PC just got easier.

As you can see from the excerpt in Figure A, Zippy's list includes the name of the application, a brief description, the name of the developer, and a link to where you can find it on the Web.

There's also a way for users and developers to submit their own applications to Zippy's list. If you've got an application that meets Zippy's criteria, send it in and add to this valuable inventory.
